Port Types

OOS allows users to configure the port type of Ethernet ports and Wi-Fi interfaces as either WAN or LAN.

!NOTEMobile Network Note: The Mobile Network interface defaults to WAN and its port type cannot be reconfigured.

!WARNINGNotification: It is recommended to reserve at least one Ethernet port on both WAN and LAN to ensure access to the OOS GUI via WAN and LAN management interfaces.

Feature Support by Port Type

Configuring an interface as WAN or LAN dictates the set of supported network features:

• WAN Port Type: Supports WAN Setting, Multiple WAN, WAN Binding, NAT, Port Forwarding External Interface, Speedtest, and Wi-Fi Client mode.
• LAN Port Type: Supports VLAN, DHCP Server, Wi-Fi AP mode, and WAN Binding.

Wi-Fi Interface Operation Modes

Switching the port type for Wi-Fi automatically triggers its corresponding wireless operating mode:

• Wi-Fi configured as WAN: Client mode is automatically enabled.
• Wi-Fi configured as LAN: AP mode is automatically enabled.

Wi-Fi Client Mode Settings

Connecting to a target SSID can be accomplished through two methods:

Method 1: Via Multiple WAN Settings

1. Go to Networking > WAN > Multiple WAN.
2. Click the "Edit" icon to open the "WAN Setting" dialog box.

3. Select an SSID and enter the password to associate and acquire an IP address.

Method 2: Via Wi-Fi Settings

1. Go to Networking > Wi-Fi.
2. Click the "Setting" button.
3. Select an SSID and enter the password to associate and acquire an IP address.

Once connected, navigate to the Wi-Fi (Client Mode) page to view detailed wireless association information.

Wi-Fi AP Mode Settings

When Wi-Fi is configured as LAN, AP mode is enabled automatically, starting the Wi-Fi service to accept client associations.

Steps to Configure Port Type as LAN:

1. Go to Networking > Forwarding > Port Type.
2. Select Wi-Fi (Client Mode) from the WAN section.
3. Click the ">" icon to move it to LAN.
4. Click "Apply".

5. Go to Networking > Wi-Fi to view the Wi-Fi (AP mode) management page.
